The Center for Social Justice Education & LGBT Communities is situated in a cozy house built in 1930 at 17 Bartlett Street, New Brunswick, NJ on the College Avenue Campus. This house at 17 Bartlett Street has served for many years as a cultural home for diverse communities on campus, first as the original Black House in 1969 by black student activist, and currently as the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities since 2016. Both of these campus organizations have roots in Black and LGBT student and staff leadership on campus; with more history of it's occupancy between those years.
Student organizations, university staff/faculty, and external partners may reserve available spaces with us. We have the following spaces open for booking:
First floor lounge. Capacity: up to 17.
Second floor conference room. Capacity: up to 20 pending set-up; examples in reservation form.
Please fill out the form below in its entirety to request a space and equipment reservation at the Center for Social Justice Education & LGBT Communities. After submission, an SJE representative will follow up with you.
Please note the following regarding your request:
1. Space Reservation Form must be submitted at least 7 business days before event/meeting.
2. Please allow up to 3 business days for your request to be reviewed after submission.
3. Requests for reservation do not guarantee availability.
4. Cancellations must be communicated via email (sje@echo.rutgers.edu) at least 24 hours before event/meeting.
5. Space reservations are free of charge for Rutgers-affiliated organizations & departments for meetings and events. External guest may incur a fee. Cost may be assessed for damage or failure to follow established rules and guidelines for all reservation guest.
SJE Operating Hours:
Monday - Friday, 9 am - 8 pm. These hours are subject to change.
Space requests are welcomed outside of operating hours upon approval.
