Let's Talk About It
Below are opportunities for dialogue on current events and hot topics. These spaces are curated to meet the needs of our student body and reflect the ever-changing national and global context. Whether you're looking to process, discuss, respectfully disagree, or just build community, SJE welcomes all members of the community to engage.
Hot Wings & Hot Topics Tuesdays

Come for the Food, Stay for the Conversation
Every 3rd Tuesday, we're coming to you to have conversations around hot topics. Themes are developed based on what's happening on campus and in the world around us. Trained facilitators will create a safe and brave space for participants to speak their mind and engage in respectful dialogue. Wings of various flavors and spice levels will also be offered.

Courageous Conversations with the Diversity Peer Educators
Courageous Conversations are specifically curated student peer-to-peer discussion spaces led by the Diversity Peer Educators. These events provide a brave and protected space for students to engage in difficult dialogue across different perspectives while centering respect and the collective well-being of the community. Learn more about upcoming Courageous Conversations at go.rutgers.edu/DPEProgram.
Processing Spaces
Processing Spaces help students, faculty, and staff make sense of the massive amounts of difficult information that impact our daily living and work. These events are hosted on an as-needed basis, specifically after instances of hate, bias, harm, or similar incidents that make it difficult to move forward. These spaces are not meant for problem-solving or organizing, but resources related to mental and physical wellness, basic needs, and more may be present based on need.
Our Partners in Dialogue
Check out our partners across campus who are also hosting spaces to dialogue across difference.
- Talking Across Difference Initiative - Rutgers Democracy Lab
Talking Across Difference is a university-wide initiative meant to equip educators, staff, and students to have productive conversations about difficult and sometimes divisive issues. https://democracylab.rutgers.edu/constructive-dialogue
- Community Conversations - Tyler Clementi Center
Community Conversations are opportunities for small groups of faculty, staff, postdocs, and students to come together to practice respectful engagement where diverse perspectives are present. Attendees learn strategies for listening generously and engaging meaningfully with different points of view using case studies of real Rutgers events. https://nbaccess.rutgers.edu/learn-grow/clementi-center/capacity-building-opportunities
